Celebrate New Year the Ladakhi Way!

Walk on the Frozen Zanskar river and Pangong lake
During winter, the temperature in Ladakh goes 20 to 25 degrees below zero. The snow covered mountains, frozen Pangong lake and the Zanskar river have a completely different story to tell. Amidst all the snow, it’s the best time to walk on the frozen Zanskar and Pangong lake.

Ladakhi homestay
We give you an opportunity to experience a traditional Ladakhi homestay in a remote and quiet village. Spend the evening learning their language and humming to some local folk songs. Feel free to join them in the kitchen if you wish to learn how to cook some local cuisine.

DETAILED ITINERARY 

DAY 1 – 26th Dec – Arrival at Leh

Pickup from Leh airport and transfer to hotel, check into the hotel for a complete day of rest. Sit back, relax and enjoy some tea and coffee. Overnight at the hotel in Leh.

Day 2 – 27th Dec - Local sightseeing in Leh

Sindhu Ghat: The Sindhu Ghat at Choglamsar village at the bank of Indus is where 50 senior Lamas hold prayers to mark the beginning of the Leh festival.

Thiksey Monastery: Thiksey Gompa is the most beautiful of all monasteries in Ladakh which lies on a hilltop to north of Indus River. The monastery is home to a 35ft Buddha statue, a must visit.

Leh Palace: The erstwhile palace was home to the royal family, located on a hilltop it overlooks the Leh town and offers spectacular views of the same.

Shanti Stupa: A spectacular white domed structure, the Shanti Stupa located on a hilltop at Chagspa offers magnificent view of the sunset. It was constructed by a Buddhist organisation, known as 'The Japanese for World Peace'.

Dinner and overnight stay at Leh.

Day 3 – 28th Dec - Leh to Ulley (Walk on the frozen Zanskar river)

Today, we take our first halt at the Sindhu Zanskar sangam, followed by a walk on the frozen Zanskar river. The drive continues and the road begins descending right into the river valley. Night stay in Uley village  home stay.

Day 4 – 29th Dec - After breakfast drive back to Leh

Confluence of Sindhu and Zanskar rivers is a magical sight apart from the obvious geographical significance.

Magnetic Hill: Alleged to have magnetic properties strong enough to pull car uphill. Visitors and residents alike claim the legend to be true. Though theres some science to it as well but we'll tell you about that during the trip.

Pattharsahib Gurudwara: A beautiful Gurudwara constructed in memory of Guru Nanak Dev. It is situated on the Leh Kargil road. The armed forces looks after the Gurudwara.

Dinner and overnight stay in Leh.

Day 5 – 30st Dec -  Visit Pangong Lake (14,270 ft)

After crossing the third highest motorable pass the Changla Pass (17800 ft) one arrives at the picture perfect Pangong lake (14,270 ft, highest salt water lake). It’s an unimaginable 135 kms long with almost 70% of the lake in China. Its part of the Changthang geographical setting in the higher Himalayas.

A day trip starting in the morning will give us enough to visit Pangong. We head back to Leh for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6 – 31st  Dec – Visit Khardungla Pass

After breakfast, we drive to Khardungla pass 18,380 ft (World's Highest Motorable Road) and get back to Leh. Welcome the new year! Over night at Leh.

Day 7 – 1st Jan - Transfer to Leh Airport
